Abstract

Ganos Fault Zone Imaging:
2017-08-29 to 2020-09-30
In the frame of the GFZimage project a dense seismic array and network will be deployed across the Ganos fault, NW Turkey. We aim at installing a total of 40 stations combining a dense array across the fault in combination with selected stations in the near vicinity to reach a good azimuthal coverage for locating microseismic activity along the Ganos Fault. The main objective of this experiment is to image and study the structure of the fault at depth based on Fault Zone Head Waves. The location is special in that it is located at the western end of the Marmara seismic gap at a fault portion that had produced a major (M7.4) earthquake in 1912.
