Abstract

High Resolution seismological project:
2010-09-01 to 2011-10-31
HiRe (High Resolution seismological project) The proposed study area is located in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula and has been little studied from the seismological point of view. The region has a number of temporary and permanent stations but reliable data about the thickness of the crust and distribution of intracrustal structures are still under discussion. One of the prominent features in this area are the Sierra Nevada ranges which probably are related to the tectonic stresses that have their origin in the interaction between the Atlantic-European-African plates. The research activities aim to investigate this area by performing a high resolution seismological study along profile crossing the Sierra Nevada from the coast in the south (station H01) to the sedimentary basin in the north (station H40). The spacing between stations is around 2km and should help us to map and understand the thickness variations and distribution of tectonic structures along the entire region. For this reason we deployed 40 stations for at least one year to collect teleseismic events and perform an integrated high resolution P and S receiver function study.
