Abstract

2009-09-01 to 2011-08-31
This project aims to understand the dynamics leading to the uplift of the rift flanks and the highly elevated Rwenzori mountain range as well as its relation to the formation of the western branch of the East-African Rift Zone. From a previous study first insights into crustal and mantle processes have been obtained. With this continuation the area under investigation will be extended to study these processes on a broader scale. The collected data will provide an opportunity to map active faults and seismic structures of the Albertine rift in high resolution. The results will help to provide substantiated constraints for further geodynamic modeling.
